Swami Kriyananda — As We Have Known Him: Subtitle

(Told by Sean Meshorer)

My first real difference of opinion with Swamiji came not long after he put me in charge of Crystal Clarity Publishers. He suggested a subtitle for his book, Awaken to Superconsciousness, that I thought did nothing to clarify what the book was about. I told him I didn’t like it, and explained why. But he wasn’t open to my reasoning.

I cared about the subtitle, but most of all I didn’t want to be at loggerheads with him. So I took two questions into meditation: “What is the right subtitle?” and, “How do I get along with Swamiji?”

I got no answer to the second question, but I did get a perfect subtitle. When I told it to Swamiji, he accepted it immediately. It was as different as night and day from the previous conversation. Which answered my second question.

“No!”—even with a good explanation—is not an adequate response. I have to give to the process, not just block the energy he has in motion. Blocked energy stops creativity.

Even if my ideas are not very good, I have found that if my attitude is right, Swamiji is always receptive. At least he’ll give my ideas a fair hearing.

The subtitle: How to Use Meditation for Inner Peace, Intuitive Guidance, and Greater Awareness.
