\u201cWhen I see people again after a long separation,\u201d Swamiji said, \u201csometimes at first I don\u2019t recognize them. Then their eyes come into focus and I remember who they are.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The \u201cseparation\u201d Swamiji refers to is not only within one lifetime, but also from one incarnation to the next.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I introduced myself to Swamiji at our first meeting,\u201d Santoshi said, \u201cHe brushed aside my introduction as an unnecessary formality between old friends. \u2018I know you,\u2019 he said, \u2018I recognize you by your eyes.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first time I went to a satsang at Swamiji\u2019s house in Assisi,\u201d Premi said, \u201che smiled in welcome and said, \u2018Many years have passed since we last saw each other.\u2019 I had known him only a few months and this was just our second meeting. I knew he was referring to past incarnations.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first time I met Seva,\u201d Swamiji said, \u201cwas at a class I gave in San Francisco in 1967.\u00a0 As soon as I saw her in the room, I knew she was an old friend.\u201d Seva was instrumental in getting Ananda started.<\/p>\n

\u201cSwamiji has known me for years,\u201d Rick Bonin said, \u201cbut we live in different communities and meet infrequently. So I wasn\u2019t surprised when I greeted him one day and he just stared at my face without saying a word. It was clear he didn\u2019t know who I was. I didn\u2019t take it personally; Swamiji meets thousands of people. I was about to remind him of my name, when his eyes locked onto mine and he looked deeply into me.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2019Rick,\u2019 he said warmly, \u2018how nice to see you,\u2019 as if I had just appeared on the scene, which, in a sense, I had.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sometimes Swamiji recognizes a person even before they meet. After he moved to India, someone casually mentioned to him the name of a person who was visiting the retreat in America. \u201cHe belongs here in India,\u201d Swamiji said. When the message reached the man, he immediately agreed.<\/p>\n

Once Swamiji held an unopened letter in his hand, from a woman he didn\u2019t know. \u201cShe is unhappy,\u201d he said. \u201cAnanda is her lifeline. She belongs here with us.\u201d Then he added a few other comments about her life and personality, all of which proved true.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
